Waypoints has received a 115-thousand dollar donation from Ritchie Bros Auctioneers.
The company held a golf tournament in summer to support a local organization in the wake of the wildfire and they decided to donate the funds to Waypoints.
Executive Direcor Michelle Taylor says the money will allow them to bridge the office space they need to bring in additional staff.
“That the Alberta Government has already approved to deal with domestic violence and sexual assault and abuse. We’re having additional councillors come online and it’s really going to help in terms of office space.”
She adds they’re looking for two domestic violence outreach councillors and they’re in the process of hiring two domestic violence outreach coordinators.
Taylor notes the money brings them closer to their $10-million dollar capital project campaign, which they’re using to build the regions first ever sexual assault and abuse shelter.
Construction is expected to begin in spring.
