The Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee is supporting a 2017 budget request.
The committee heard a presentation from Dana Woodworth, Lead of the Task Force, and Mark Power, Project services Lead of the Recovery Task Force where they discussed a budget request of $55,743,977.
The request would be cash flow for operations up front for both the WBRC and the Task Force.
The purpose of the funds is to ensure that all objectives and goals set by the Wildfire’s Recovery Campaign Plan and Recovery Plan will be implemented throughout 2017.
One example Woodworth used was the recent recommendations approved by council for the comprehensive firebreak program as they are still finalizing with those residents just what the final costs would be.
The money would break down to $17,152,661 from municipal funding and a cash flow request of $38,591,316. The $38 million is being estimated as reimbursable in the Disaster Relief Program.
“The reality is, the budgeting cycle for this particular task force is tight, they might not reflect this exact dollar value when they go forward,” said Woodworth.
These numbers could change in the coming days as they have to submit final numbers to the finance department by Friday. The final financial plan presentation has been set for December 13 for possible review and approval.
The committee supported the request 6-0.
