The office has run out of kleenex. I have cried and cried
happy tears at how amazing this song/music video/collaboration is.
“Starboy,” was directed by Grant Singer and in it you see a masterpiece of symbolism as The Weeknd smashes pictures of his old albums with a neon red cross. I’m getting the idea that he’s re-inventing himself and making sure no one forgets that he’s here for the long-haul.
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye or, The Weeknd was first thrust into the spotlight when he heavily collaborated with Drake on “Take Care”. He co-wrote a handful of songs on that album as well as sang on a couple. Now, he says “the screams keep getting louder”.
The words that stick out to me on Starboy are “I’m a mother****ing starboy”. The emotion put into those 4 words are what you’re left remembering with this incredible new track. I also love the soulful electronic blanket Daft Punk covers this song with. Daft Punk and The Weeknd were meant to create this song together. It was destiny.
With Starboy he lets the world know he’s not a singer, he’s an icon.
