Another football first has been made in Fort McMurray following the work done by the Monarchs to become CFML Champions.
The senior football team for the Holy Trinity Knights has cracked the top ten ranking in Tier lll football across the province. This is the highest ranking a team in Fort McMurray has ever seen for high school football.
“I was shocked, it’s definitely something to be inspired to, I didn’t think it would happen this early in the season but it was a pleasant surprise,” said Kwame Osei, Head Coach of the Knights.
The Knights have only played two games, showcasing both offense and defense in games against the newly formed Public Phoenix team and the Merc Trappers.
In the first game of the year, they were able to shutout Public Phoenix, 23-0, with the team following that with a blowout of the Trappers, 50-16.
The players have shown up in the first games and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
“They specifically told me, they want more, this is just the beginning,” said Osei.
The Knights are back to back champions of the Fort McMurray Football League and have become main rivals with the two other teams in the league, especially the Merc Trappers. Heated matches have been the result, reliving pass seasons and games.
“We don’t play this game to be at the bottom of the barrel, we play this game to be at the top, that’s our goal to be number one in Alberta and to reach our potential,” said Osei.
The Knights will have this week off before getting back on the field next Friday, October 7 against Public Phoenix.
