The community is remembering a woman who served on the Fort McMurray Catholic School Board since 1989.
Trustee Geraldine Carbery served eight three-year terms and was currently in her ninth elected term when she passed away on the weekend.
Board Chair Tracy McKinnon says Carbery was an esteemed and passionate advocate for education both in Fort McMurray and in Alberta.
Superintendent George McGuigan says he remembers her incredible personality and dedication to education.
Carbery served in many positions in parent councils and was recognized for her years of service by the Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association.
Carbery also had many interests in the community at large including serving with Girl Guides of Canada and the Irish Dancing Society.
Carbery is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
