The 2016 Wildfire Appreciation and Family Fun Day is happening at Willow Lake Landing Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This will be the first of it’s kind to help recognize and appreciate the Anzac Fire Department for all they did during the wildfire.
“Because of our volunteer fire fighters out here in Anzac who braved valiantly during the fire to save our community, and their community as well, just for the people who stood up and helped with the evacuation center that happened so quickly here at our rec center,” said Board Administrator for the non-profits in Anzac, Nicole Gardner. “Our community pools together always but they did an outstanding job to pull together and help the evacuees in Fort McMurray, just our community pulling together once again and helping out where we needed, they need to be recognized.”
The Anzac fire department will be on hand, bringing one of their trucks for the kids to see and explore.
Speeches and awards will also be presented for the firefighters during the day. An open mic will also be available for any citizen who would like to say a few words.
“There is so many people here, we know everybody and it’s just to get out there and say hi, thank you, we love you,” said Gardner.
The event will also have a free barbecue for everyone, with a live country band coming out to perform. Activities for the all families to enjoy include: a petting zoo, 5 large obstacle courses, bouncy castles, and many other games for children. Prizes will also be handed out to all the kids.
