After more than two months, the Fort McMurray wildfire has now been completely contained.
According to the Alberta Wildfire mobile app, MWF-009 A.K.A. “The Beast” is now classified as “under control.” The new status means that the blaze is now considered completely contained, and will be extinguished.
From June 13 until now, the status was “being held” which meant that a perimeter had been created and the fire wasn’t expected to grow beyond its current size.
Since May 3, the fire has burned 589,552 hectares of land including over 2,000 structures in the RMWB.
