Councillor Colleen Tatum’s court hearing regarding her eligibility to continue as a municipal councillor has been postponed.
The Ward 1 representative was originally scheduled to appear at a hearing Wednesday, but with the evacuation most court appearances have been pushed back.
Council referred Tatum to the courts after it came to light that she had failed to pay her 2015 property taxes. She apologized, saying it was an honest mistake by a staffer at her business, and repaid the money. The lapse in payment violated the Municipal Governance Act, but when Tatum didn’t resign councillors voted to have a judge rule on the matter.
“I wanted the band-aid ripped and the whole thing over,” Tatum said in a message to our newsroom. “But now is the time to serve our community so I’m honoured to be able to continue doing (that).”
No new court date has been set.
