Canada Post is working to restore their services in Fort McMurray.
The crown corporation has opened five of their offices for business, and crews are working to clean and sanitize community mailboxes to prepare for residential delivery. The company said in a statement that they were hoping to have the community mailboxes cleaned by the end of June. The process will be completed by zone, with the lower townsite and Anzac being worked on first.
Mail delivery to businesses has also resumed to those that are open. Backed up mail for businesses will be delivered direct, and Canada Post is hoping to be caught up on the process by the end of the week.
As for accumulated mail for residents, the company says those affected will receive notices in the mail as to when their collected items are ready to pick up from one of their offices. Parcels will be delivered door-by-door, while socio-economic cheques will be delivered by address as well.
