It’s been a rough go for evacuees at reception centres across the province, but AHS has some good news.
The health authority has declared the end of gastro-intestinal illness outbreaks at the facilities, which at some points were sheltering thousands of McMurrayites fleeing from the wildfire.
In all, 307 cases of GI illnesses were reported at evacuee centres between May 6 and June 1. AHS says they’re no longer seeing an increase in the number of cases, and declared the outbreak over as of 4 p.m. Monday.
They’re still warning that sporadic cases of GI illness may continue to occur, and they’re encouraging all Albertans to take precautions.
Those precautions include washing hands frequently and not preparing food or going to work/school while ill.
