There was no significant growth in the Fort McMurray wildfire yesterday, and the fire is now nearly 58 per cent contained.
That’s according to the province in the latest wildfire update this afternoon.
The fire is estimated to cover 581,695 hectares, including the Saskatchewan side with a perimeter estimate of 984 kilometres.
Extreme burning conditions still exist for some areas of the fire.
Earlier today, Alberta Wildfire declared the fire hazard index to now be at high.
As well they are reminding residents and visitors to respect the fire ban and OHV restrictions.The RMWB also has a fire ban in effect for the Fort McMurray urban service area.
