The fire is still out of control.
That’s the latest update from Alberta Wildfires.
Firefighters were able to fly and measure the wildfire last night and it’s now estimated to be 284,214 hectares.
This morning the area was blanketed with heavy smoke which has decreased the behavior of the wildfire however as the smoke lifts this afternoon the wildfire is becoming active once again.
Spokesperson Chad Morrison says there are still hotspots in the forested areas surrounding and in Fort McMurray although good wind conditions over the weekend helped the effort to fight the fire as well as to secure the Anzac area.
Today, firefighters have better conditions, shorter shifts, and more people to rotate.
