One of the few remaining untouched parts of the city has been hit by the massive wildfire that’s destroyed thousands of homes and businesses in the region.
As of 1:06 a.m., the RMWB said that crews were battling fires on Prospect Drive, located in eastern Timberlea. Until this point, information had suggested damage in the neighbourhood to be limited to the western edge of Confederation Way.
There is no word on how many structures have caught, or how many have been lost at this time.
The RMWB will be providing updates again starting at 8 a.m. They, along with the rest of emergency management crews, had to relocate twice yesterday due to the path of the fire.
First they had to hose down Fire Hall No. 5 and retreat to Anzac when the flames jumped Highway 63 at Airport Road. That fire at last update had reached the old terminal of the airport and the Nova Hotel.
The operations centre in Anzac then had to pack up again as the fire continued southeast, forcing 900 residents and evacuees to flee the hamlet as well. The operations centre has now moved 300 km south to Lac La Biche.
Mix News will continue providing coverage of the wildfires as details become available
