Four different Chrysler and Dodge models manufactured between 2007 and 2016 are included in a new public safety advisory from federal transportation minister Marc Garneau.
After receiving over 100 complaints from owners about power steering in the affected vehicles, Transport Canada investigated the problem further and identified a high risk of vehicle fires.
The models include 2009-2016 Dodge Journeys, 2007-2016 Dodge Avengers, 2011-2013 Chrysler 200s and 2007-2010 Chrysler Sebrings.
Garneau is requesting feedback from owners of those particular models, after which he will make a final determination on the fate of the vehicles.
In a press release Wednesday, Garneau said “I reserve the option of forcing a recall if corrective measures are not applied in a satisfactory manner.”
He added, “Manufacturers should know that we have high standards for Canadian vehicles, and we expect them to live up to these standards at all times.”
