For one group of local teens, there is no “Get Out of Jail Free” card.
Westwood High School students, along with some prominent figures from the community, will be “prisoners” in the school’s Jail and Bail event tomorrow.
The event is being held to raise money for Project Kenya, a student-led initiative to aid in the construction of schools and medical facilities in rural areas of the east African nation.
The overall fundraising goal is $500 and the “prisoners” must collectively raise this “bail” money in order to get out of jail.
Participants must collect pledges through phone calls, text messages, emails, Facebook messages, or via Twitter.
Donations can be made by cash, cheque or by credit card and all gifts of $20 or more will be tax deductible.
Anyone who wishes to place their donation in person can do so at the Westwood office, located at 221 Tundra Drive, and donations will also be accepted by phone at 780-791-1986.
Jail and Bail runs tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Westwood High School.
