It’s kind of like bumper cars on ice.
So says Regional Program Coordinator Spinal Cord Injury Alberta Stephanie Myrick about sledge hockey.
Myrick says this Monday afternoon, the general public will get a chance to see some of the Oil Barons in action on sledges as they play a game at the Casman Centre.
She says the game is really only different from regular hockey by the way players get around.
“But basically instead of skating on the ice you’re sitting on a little aluminum sled, and you push yourself using two different hockey sticks which have spikes in the end and you shoot and score with the other end of the stick,” says Myrick.
Myrick says proceeds from the game will go to the SCI Alberta and the McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association.
There will be raffle tickets sold for Oil Barons games, the upcoming Montreal Canadiens Alumni Game and more than $250 in gift cards.
Admission is $10 at the Casman Centre when doors open at 1:30.
